Why ModernZ

We built the last migration. We are building this one.

Two founders who took VMware to the hyperscalers and built AI-era SaaS at scale, now building the platform that takes enterprises from diagnostic to production.

Built VMware Cloud from zero to $1B in run-rate as its General Manager, through jointly engineered partnerships with AWS, Azure, Google Cloud, OCI, Alibaba, Dell and Equinix. Co-founded Google Cloud VMware Engine.

Earlier head of product at ClearStory Data (backed by a16z, Kleiner Perkins and Google Ventures; acquired by Alteryx), and leadership roles at Salesforce and Oracle. Three patents in cloud infrastructure and hybrid cloud management.

“Most enterprises have a cloud bill, not a cloud strategy, and now an AI mandate on top of it. Nobody has given the CIO an objective picture of the estate, a business case that holds in the boardroom, and a plan that survives commercial execution. That is the gap ModernZ closes.”

Co-founded Productiv and served as its CTO through Series C ($80M from Accel, Norwest and IVP). Before that, VP of Engineering at Postmates (acquired by Uber) and a Director at Amazon, running global teams and high-availability systems with billions in annual business impact.

Thirteen years at Microsoft building Office 365 Lync, which became Teams. Seven patents in SaaS management and cloud infrastructure.

“The technical debt inside legacy infrastructure is not just slowing enterprises down. It is blocking them from AI: the data is siloed, the pipelines do not exist, and the applications were never designed to be called by an agent. The question is whether you fix that with precision or pay for it twice.”
Why we started ModernZ

This is the on-premises-to-cloud migration again, with one part changed.

Every CEO has declared the company AI, and CIOs give the same answer: the mandate is there and the plan is not. We spent the last decade moving enterprises to the cloud and watched the same gap open then. The plan and the decisions still need good humans. The doing, which was hundreds of people at keyboards, is now agents.

One estate, two forces: run the business and grow the business, on the same base of GCE, GKE, VMware, mainframe, SAP, .NET and Java.
One estate. Two forces pressing on it, and they are the two halves of every IT budget.

Cloud 2.0, with Kearney.

The founders co-authored Cloud 2.0: from migration to optimization with Kearney (April 2026), the playbook enterprises use to decide where every workload should run. The same engine now decides what every application needs to reach the level its agents require.

How we work

Four commitments.

Service as software. 80 to 90% of the work is done by our agents. We own the end-to-end outcome and you approve every gate.

Careful, not fearful. Per-agent identity, rate limits and data walls are built before the first write.

Measured every month. Progress is a level moved on the roadmap you approved, visible to your steering group.

Vendor-neutral by measurement. 81 target architectures scored in one pass, including staying where you are.

Find out which level your enterprise is at.

Five weeks. Read-only. Free through cloud partner programs.
